Gone Fishin'

Look out Snook! Here we come!

Me and some of the fellers took off for Tampa Bay and went fishing one morning. It was awesome. Captain Woody Gore showed us how to keep Snook on the line and how to run off people that try to canoe in your fishing path. Just hanging out with some good buddies and being on the water. It was the perfect birthday gift.

Time for some ketchup.

I know that I'm REALLY behind on the blogging...so now it's time for some quick catch up. Hang on, there's lots to talk about.

EASTER 2008

Thought I'd post a few pics from our Easter here in Florida. It was a very good, relaxing Easter. Hunted eggs, hung out with our neighbors and good friends after church, and then just grabbed a bite to eat with family that evening. Made me reflect on just how truly blessed I am. Hope everyone had a great Easter as well.

The V List

Speaking of vasectomies (did I spell that right?), I have a list of movies/shows/football games that I want to watch during my recovery period. I only hope that it lasts only a weekend, so time is limited. Here's the deal: I want to watch some great stuff. The rules are that Holly can't judge or comment on anything I watch, AND I can request back rubs at will. Sorry, hon. Those are the rules. I'm doing this for us and our sanity.

Okay, I digress, here is my list. Feel free to change, add, or even comment on these. I'll go over them all and then decide on the list. Thanks for your comments (go ahead, break the rules! No one else leaves a comment, be the first!)

John's Vasectomy List:
•Star Wars. All six
•The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (except the stupid Hobbit pillow fight at the very end)
•Godfather I and II
•Tommy Boy
•Ghosthunters
•Transformers (skipping scenes with Megan Fox)
•Tennessee vs. Florida (2001)
•Tennessee vs. Georgia (2006 and 2007)
•Happy Gilmore
•Scrubs (Season 3 and 4. I missed a lot of those)
•Cool Hand Luke
•The Office (All seasons)
•Videos of my children being born. Lord willing, we won't have to film any more of those.

Let's have 'em...

Huh? (aka "The Snip)

So, I went to a Urologist the other day to have a consultation about the Big Snip, the V, taking out the goalie, etc. My physician told me that he's good. I went all the way to Kissimmee and visited his office. First of all, I see a bunch of posters, brochures and pamphlets about LYPOSUCTION. Hmmmm. Okay. Then I got to noticing a bunch of people waiting to talk to him about the lyposuction and other techniques he can do. I'm thinking, "Am I at the right doctor?" So I ask and they assure me I'm in the right spot and ask for my insurance card. I give it to her.
I go into the back and see a bunch of boxes, paper, etc. just lying around the offices. Later, the doctor tells me that he will preform the "procedure" in an office just like this. Also, he says that he doesn't do the "No Scalpel" procedure, the one that typically isn't as difficult to recover from. Uhhhh...no. I'm not usually a doctor snob, I inherently trust people, but not when it comes to something as important as this. So, I went and made an appointment with another physician and now I'm feeling a little better about it.
The whole needle thing down there freaks me out, but try getting any sympathy from Holly, who (to her credit) has had 3 babies and has had the needle down there often. Not me, though. There's a reason God had women give birth. Me? I'm freaking out about it and I'm sure there will be other posts about this subject to come. We'll find out more April 8th. Or, I may just resort to this...

Grady + Me=Magic

Took Grady to his first Orlando Magic game the other night. It was so awesome! Orlando played the Toronto Raptors and Grady had a great time. Not sure if it was because he was with me or if it was the popcorn, candy and Coke, but I will take it all the same. He's such a wonderful little guy. Do I sound like a sappy Dad?
We had great seats (thanks Mickey!) and he even caught a T-shirt. PLUS, Grady had his first cheerleader moment. We were sitting there and the Orlando Magic Dancers walked out and started dancing. I noticed Grady staring at them and then he noticed me watching him. He looked at me and said, "They are pretty, Daddy."

All in all it was a great evening. I nearly got us both shot on the way home, however, because I got lost and ended up driving through the Orlando Hood, which is VERY dangerous, folks. Let's just say I did a U-turn right in the middle of a street filled with some of Orlando's finest asking why I was there. Gulp. So, I guess Grady also had his first trip to Thug life Orlando as well.

Shameful Advertising—Vol.One

Let's face it, this business of advertising that I'm in can be downright shameful at times. And while I firmly believe I've never been a part of anything sinister or have done just HORRIBLE work, really bad work is out there. And every once in a while I'm going to post a few examples of it.

This volume will include really bad cigarette advertising from the '50's. The folks over at Ebaums World posted these. The ads prove you can't always believe what you read. I particularly like the first. Wow.

My new look

Since I'm now bald (St.Baldrick's event, March 14th at Mulligan's Pub), I decided to try and find the right look to go with my bald head.
Let me know which I should choose and I'll wear it. For one week. Can't wait to hear which you choose.

The Tom Selleck
This look will be awesome when I race around town in my buddy T.C.'s helicopter, while Zeus and Apollo (good dogs) hang out at home.

Prison Break
I call this "Prison Break," because just like the show, I think I could pull this off, but only after a few weeks of planning.

John McBrawl (aka "The Wall of Beard")
Not sure I could ever pull this one off, but I'm willing to try. I didn't start shaving until I was 24, so who knows.

American History X
Nuff said.

I'm in Sports Illustrated!

Mom will be so proud. I feel like Mike Wazowski in "Monster's Inc." when he was on the TV commercial.

We just got finished with some ads for ESPN the Weekend and one of them is in Sports Illustrated. The whole concept is based on sports trading cards and how big fans collect them.

I don't know, but this #55 looks like he could tear someone's head off. Or write some copy.

So proud.

They say that everything you did in childhood will come back to haunt you when you have children. I guess it's payback.

The apple truly doesn't fall far from the tree.

An open letter to the University of Texas

Hello, Longhorn fans. Let me be the first to say that I do like your team. This isn't some personal rant because I can't stand the Longhorns. Quite the contrary, I do like your team. HOWEVER, there's been something that's bothered me for quite some time, UofT. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO GET YOUR OWN FREAKIN' LOGO?

Look, when it comes to the Longhorn icon, there's really nothing to me that beats it besides the Michigan helmet. So why is it that every time I see Mack Brown or some other coach on the Texas sideline they are wearing a "T" hat? That's right. Squarely right in the middle of the hat is a "T." Ahem, let me tell you Texas, the "T" belongs to Tennessee and it totally irks me that you can't just use the Longhorn icon. Since 1964, we've had the "T" on our helmets. We used the U and T logo for a while and you stole that too, back in the 80's and 90's.

It just seems to me that if Austin is such a high-tech town that you could get some great designers to fix that for you. Or, call some students from the University, they have one of the better advertising programs in the country. I don't care how you get it, just leave Tennessee's logo alone. If it wasn't for us Tennesseans, you'd be speaking Spanish and paying your income taxes to Mexico City right now. So show some respect and get your own logo.

Thanks and Happy New Year,

John McCall
Rabid Vol fan.

Spooky

Halloween 2007 was a blast, starting out with a trip to the Magic Kingdom for Mickey's-Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Then, on Halloween, we went trick or treating with our new neighbors, Michael and Peggy Duncan. It was all good fun and the kids got lots of candy. Some pics below:
